Project background:
The main treatment object of the site is a 4157KVA, 10/0.6KV transformer, and the main load is the unit 6 and unit 14 melting machines used to produce crucibles. The passive capacitor compensation cabinet installed on site was powered on for the first time. Less than three minutes after it was put into operation, one of the capacitor circuit fuses burned out. After user testing, it was found that the harmonics on site were very serious, which made the passive compensation unable to be put into operation.
Harmonic solution:
To control the harmonics, active filters with a total capacity of 550A were installed.
Equipment Selection: Active Power Filter (APF)
Equipment model: CoEpo APF/550A-0.4-D
Installation capacity:550A
Installation method: Rack Mounted

Effect:
The 600V side distribution system of the transformer had serious voltage and current distortion before active filter compensation. After the active filter was turned on, the system voltage distortion rate was reduced from 31.4% to 14.5%, and the system current distortion rate was reduced from 23.7% to 9.6%. The system’s current and voltage waveforms were improved from the previous severely distorted waveforms to close to sine waveforms, and the 5th harmonic current in the system was improved from 508.5A to 51.9A, with a compensation rate of 89.7%. Moreover, after the active equipment compensated for the other harmonic currents of 2 to 13 times, the current content of each order decreased, and the treatment effect was significant, achieving the expected effect.
